How to reached Tawang

Nestled,in the Himalayas,Tawang is a charming little hill station in Arunachal pradesh and is considered to be one of the most visited tourist destinations of Northeast India. With a rich culture and history,Tawang houses India's largest monastery and is a revered destination among Buddhist.

Best Destinations to Visit
●SELA PASS
Sela Pass is famous for its offering spectacular views of the Himalayas,a hike to pass is a popular activity amongst the traveler to Arunachal pradesh. It is believed that the pas has 101 lakes around it,which holds religious significance to the Buddhist community. 
It has an elevation of 4170m 13,700ft and connects the Indian Buddhist town of Tawang to Dirang and Guwahati. 

●BUM LA PASS
The BUM LA PASS is a border pass between Tibet's Cona County and India's Tawang district in Arunachal pradesh.The Bum LA PASS is accessible only by permission.For the permits we need to Visit the Office of Deputy Commissioner in tawang district and then India army cantonment in Tawang. It is the historical route,the People's Liberation Army of China invaded during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

●MADHURI LAKE
MADHURI LAKE is a must see for someone visiting Tawang.One can hire a tourist taxi from Tawang to reach this place. It is about 1½ hour journey from Tawang through narrow criss-cross roads going uphill. The lake is located about 12000ft above sea level. It was formed by a flash flood after an earthquake in the year 1950.Madhuri lake is originally known as Shonga-Tser lake,which is one of the most popular lake in Tawang. The lake was renamed after the shooting of Bollywood movie Koyla,starring Madhuri Dixit,the beautiful actress.

●TAWANG BUDDHIST MONASTERY
It is the largest monastery in India and third largest in the world after Potola Palace in Lhasa,Tibet.The monastery is three- stories high. It is enclosed by a 925ft 282m long compound wall. Within the complex there are 65 residential buildings. The library of the monastery has most valuable old scriptures,mainly kangyur and tengyur. 

●JASWANT GARH
JASWANT GARH was famously known as Jaswanthgarh war memorial and this memorial is garland in honor in late JASWANT SINGH RAWAT,who was killed during the indo-china war in 1962.

●NURANANG FALLS
It is one of the most spectacular in this part of the country,yet it is unknown to many travelers. It is over 100m in height. It lies some  2km away from the town of jang on the road connecting Tawang and Bomdila,so it is also known as Jang Falls. There is a small Hydel plant located near the base that generates electricity for local use.

●TAWANG WAR MEMORIAL:
Tawang war memorial is a stupa built to commemorate the Indian martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the 1962, Indo-china war.A 40ft high multi-hued memorial. 

●PANGATENG TSO LAKE:
It is one of the most interesting lakes surrounded by the brilliance and beauty of Mother nature. This ĺake is surrounded by a vivid backdrop of the snow-clad Himalayan Mountains and gusing cold water of the rivers.

●GORSAM CHORTEN:
GORSAM CHORTEN is situated Zemithang- 90 away from Tawang. It is the largest stupa of the area with the height of about 100ft like 10 storied building. It lies in the valley floor,on the bank of namjang chu river.

●NAGULA LAKE:
At a height of approx 13500ft,it is one of the highest altitude small lake in Tawang known as land of lakes boasting of 100 plus lakes. Although the lake is known for heavy military presence owning to its location near the border,the place attracts a number of tourists. 

●EAGLE NEST WILDLIFE SANCTUARY:
It is a part of the Kamen Elephant Reserve. Eaglenest is notable as a prime birding site due to extraordinary variety, numbers and accessibility of species. Eaglenest derives its name from Red Eagle Division of the Indian army which was posted in the area in the 1950s.

●GORICHEN PEAK:
GORICHEN is a glacier-fed mountain group in the Eastern Himalayas. Peaks includes the third highest peak in the Northeast India. At 22500ft, Gorichen remains snowbound for the entire year around. The road starting from Bomdila winds upto a ridge leaving the pristine Bomdila monastery below. It is situated at a distance of about 43km from Bomdila.

●GYANGONG ANI GOMPA:
GYANGONG ANI GOMPA,perched on the top of beautiful hillock is nunnery,is located at a distance of around 5km I the north of Tawang. It is one of the oldest nunnery in Tawang. It is a home to around 45 nuns and was built by Karchen Yeshi Gelek in 1595.

●BAP TENG KANG WATERFALL:
It is a beautifull and striking waterfall in the city of Tawang. BAP TENG KANG WATERFALL attracts more tourists each year to the region of tawang. The height of BAP TENG KANG  is  100ft. It is situated 82km away from Tawang. It is one of the most scintillating and panoramic waterfalls of the state and is located amidst the hidden treasures of lush greenery and scenic. 

●URGELLING GOMPA:
The URGELLING GOMPA around 4km from Tawang and is of great significance as it is the birth place of the Sixth Dalai Lama. There is a holy tree here with prayer flags around its truck.

●BANGA JANG LAKE:
This is a place like a heaven with full of natural beauty and lot of scenery,waterfalls and is called Land of rising Sun .
This is also one of the famous picnic spot to Visit in this region. We can also watch the majestic of sunset and sunrise in premises of this lake.

●GESNILA PEAK:
GESNILA PEAK is the closest peak to Tawang which is located at a distance of 25km from Khrimu. The GESNILA PEAK provides absolute tranquility, awesome sights and multiple of scenic picturesque locations from all around. It is a sort of guardian angel for the people of the area.

Best Month to Visit Tawang
The best season to Visit Tawang is the summer season and the onset of the monsoon season. The best month to visit is MARCH, APRIL, MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, and OCTOBER. 
The temperature remains comfortable and is apt for sightseeing.

1. By Train: The nearest major railway station to Tawang is Rangapara Railway Station located in Tezpur.It is located at the distance of 314km from Tawang,and is connected to major cities like Kolkata,Delhi, Chennai,etc. We can easily find a taxi or bus to travel Tawang from here.

2. By Air:The nearest airport to reach Tawang is"Salonibari Airport" in tezpur Assam,located at a distance of 314km from Tawang.Other nearest airport are ■Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport 167.89km.
  ■Dimapur Airport 268.43km.
■Dibrugarh Airport 310.87km

 


3. Road/self-drive. By road the distance between Tawang to Guwahati is 518kms.It nearly takes 12:38hrs to reach Tawang.
